Avreich Brought Hot Donuts, and the Autistic Child Smiled
It was the avreich, Rabbi Gorai, a messenger from the Refuah and Yeshuah organization; in one hand he had a tray of hot fresh donuts and in the other a precious gift for the autistic son.
It’s not an easy life for parents of autistic children. They almost have no moment of rest. Moments of silence are a distant dream. But yesterday they had a few moments of relaxation; a few moments of mental rest.
In the S. family they had just finished lighting the Chanukah candles. The children sat around the living room table, and a small family evening eating potato pancakes had begun. There’s no need to describe how an evening sitting around the table goes when there’s an autistic child in the family.
Suddenly there was a knock. And who’s at the door? It was the avreich, Rabbi Gorai, a messenger from the Refuah and Yeshuah organization; in one hand he had a tray of hot fresh donuts and in the other a precious gift for the autistic son.
At once their son became the happiest boy on earth. The boy turned aside to play with the avreich who’d left his home and his family to please another family with whom he has no connection.
"And this is in addition to Shabbatot, the camps, and the Fridays when they take these children out of their homes; and everything is to assist us," said the father excitedly.
“Blessed is the nation that such is their lot.”
