  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Skverer: "Gadol Yehyeh Habayis Hazeh"

In Kiryat Skverer, just before Rosh Hashana, a new hall will be dedicated, and the Admor, shilta, will hold his tischen there.

Yosef Feffer - New York 08/09/2009 12:50

With great awe and joy, thousands of Skverer Chassidim anticipate the dedication of the magnificent, huge building, "Heichal Rina v' Tefilla", that will serve as a hall for the tischen of Maran, the holy Admor of Skver, shlita, in Kiryat Melech Rav, Skver.

The idea for the building was born ten years ago. At that time, after the construction of the great beis midrash in Skver had been completed, expanding the original beis midrash that had become too crowded to hold all the members of the growing community, it was suggested that a large hall should also be built to house the tisch tables of the Admor, shlita.

In the summer of 1999, a grand cornerstone ceremony was held for the future hall. Skver chassidim from all over New York were present at the unforgettable event, which was attended by Rabbi Naftali Tzi of Bobov, ztz"l, who gave a wonderful speech in honor of the event. Thousands of chassidim were present to witness the first stones being laid for the hall, by the holy Skvere Rebbe, Rabbi David Twersky, ztz"l.

Almost ten years have passed since those first stones were laid, and construction has proceeded at a very slow pace. Over the years, various fundraising events have been held in chassidic communities to raise money for the project. Chassidic philanthropists gave generous donations in order to help complete the building. Less affluent members of the community also did what they could to help, in a desire to participate in such an important project. They are all familiar with the famous saying by the former Rebbe of Skver,  Yaakov Yosef, ztz"l: " In Skvere poilte man bam tisch"- loosely translated as "In Skverer, participation in a tisch brings salvation to those who need".

The building is exceptionally beautiful, inside and out. It is located next to the large beis midrash in the Skver neighborhood, and is also near the home of the Skverer Admor, shlita. The façade of the building is especially impressive. It was constructed according to a design popular in Eretz Yisrael, and stones were imported from Israel for the building. Much effort was invested in designing the building's windows, which were handcrafted by an Israeli artisan and brought to America to be installed in Skver.

The building contains, first and foremost, a spacious hall, with a large gallery – there, the Admor will hold his tischen. The existence of the hall will mean less work for the gabbaim of the beis midrash, who until now had to set up chairs and tables in the beis midrash itself each time a tisch was scheduled.

In addition, there are special rooms for studying Torah and davening, and a modest apartment for the Admor of Skverer, shlita, so that he can receive the public in comfort and in a peaceful setting.

For years, chassidim were able to purchase memorial plaques or other honors in the memory of deceased family members, and especially those who made large contributions in the past towards completing the building.

Though the construction is not totally complete, the building is sufficiently ready for use, and in honor of the new year, it has been decided to hold the holiday tischen in the new hall. On Rosh Hashana, the Admor, shlita, will conduct his tischen in the hall, with thousands of chassidim in attendance, who will travel to Skever from every chassidic community, to bask in the holy light of their Rebbe.

Skverer Chassidim have informed "Etrog" that in the coming days, an event will be scheduled for the keviyas mezuzah, and official chanukas habayis, during which the Admor will once again bless all of the generous donors.
